Fire Sprinkler Extinguishes Springfield Apartment Fire

On Friday, November 22, at approximately 1:47 p.m., units from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and the City of Alexandria Fire Department were dispatched for a reported apartment fire in the 6300 block of Edsall Road in Springfield area of Fairfax County.

Units arrived on the scene of a six-story, residential high-rise and discovered a small fire had occurred in one of the apartments. The fire was extinguished by the fire sprinkler head in the kitchen. Crews searched the apartment and found one occupant. Firefighters quickly removed the occupant. The adult occupant was transported to an area hospital. There were no firefighter injuries.

The fire was discovered after a building occupant heard the building alarm and, upon investigation, saw smoke coming from another apartment. Smoke alarms were working and activated.

Fire Investigators determined that the fire started on top of the stove. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation.

Damages as a result of the fire are approximately $25,000.
