Electrical Event Causes Clifton House Fire

On Monday, November 11, at approximately 4:58 p.m., units from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and the City of Fairfax Fire Department were dispatched for a reported house fire in the 11700 block of Wolf Run Lane in the Clifton area of Fairfax County.

Units arrived on scene of a two-story, single family home with smoke showing from a window on the second floor. While enroute a Tanker Task Force was requested as there were not any fire hydrants close. This brought additional resources from Prince William County Fire and Rescue. Crews quickly located and extinguished a fire on the second floor of the home. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.

One occupant was home at the time of the fire. The occupant saw smoke inside the foyer and called 9-1-1. Smoke alarms were present but did not activate due to the location of the fire.

Fire Investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature and started in a second-floor bedroom. The cause of the fire was an electrical event in a power strip.

Two occupants were displaced. Red Cross assistance was offered but declined. Damages as a result of the fire were approximately $30,000.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department encourages all residents to “S.T.E.P. (Safety Takes Every Person) Into Safety” and practice electrical fire safety.
