Reston Townhouse Fire Displaces Three

On Saturday, March 3, at approximately 1:44 p.m., units were dispatched to a reported townhouse fire in the 2000 block of Swans Neck Way in the Reston section of Fairfax County.

Units arrived on the scene of a two-story, end unit townhouse and reported fire evident in the attic and on the roof. The fire was quickly extinguished. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

One adult occupant was home at the time of the fire. The occupant was alerted to the fire by a neighbor. There were smoke alarms in the home that did not activate due to the location of the fire.

Fire Investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature and started between the metal chimney pipe and the interior wood structure. The fire was caused by radiant heat escaping through the gaps in the chimney joints.

Three occupants were displaced as a result of the fire. Red Cross assistance was offered and declined. Damage to the home as a result of the fire is estimated to be $65,000.
