Dishwasher Sparks Tysons Townhouse Fire

On Monday, December 23 at approximately 10:43 a.m., units were dispatched for a reported townhouse fire in the 2000 block of Meadow Springs Drive in the Tysons area of Fairfax County.

Units arrived on the scene of a three-story, middle unit townhouse with smoke showing from the roof. Crews located and extinguished a fire on the second floor. There was some fire extension to the third floor which was quickly extinguished. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. Sadly, a family dog did perish in the fire.

No occupants were home at the time of the fire. The fire was discovered by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the house. Working smoke alarms were present and did sound.

Fire Investigators determined that the fire started in the kitchen and was accidental in nature. The cause of the fire involved an unattended operating dishwasher.

Two occupants were displaced because of the fire. Red Cross assistance was offered and accepted. Damages as a result of the fire were approximately $187,500.
