Fire Sprinklers Save Kingstowne Restaurant

On Wednesday, October 31, at approximately 2:11 a.m., units from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and the City of Alexandria Fire Department were dispatched for a reported building fire in the 5900 block of Kingstowne Towne Center in the Kingstowne area of Fairfax County.

Units arrived on the scene of a one-story, commercial strip shopping center and found smoke in the unit. Crews discovered the fire sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire prior to fire department arrival. There were no reported firefighter or civilian injuries.

The fire department was notified by the fire alarm system that had activated. This triggered a notification to 9-1-1.

Fire Investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature and started in the kitchen area of the restaurant. The cause of the fire was combustibles too close to a heat source.

No one was displaced because of the fire. Red Cross services were not needed. Damages as a result of the fire were approximately $3,000.
