Lincolnia Apartment Fire Caused By Electrical Event

On Monday, May 22, at approximately 3:32 p.m., units from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, the City of Alexandria Fire Department, and the Arlington County Fire Department were dispatched to a reported apartment fire in the 4900 block of Beauregard Street in the Lincolnia section of Fairfax County. 

Units arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the second floor balcony of a three-story garden apartment building. The fire had started to spread towards the apartment. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the fire to bring it under control. Due to their efforts, firefighters were able to confine the fire to the area of origin. There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.

The occupants of the apartment were not home at the time of the fire. The fire was discovered by a passerby.

Fire Investigators determined that the fire started on the balcony of an apartment on the second floor. The fire was accidental in nature and caused by an electrical event involving a power strip. Red Cross services were offered on scene, but declined.

Damages as a result of the fire were estimated to be approximately $25,000.
