On April 25, 26 and 27 members of the Fairfax County Hazardous Materials Response Team attended technical training on radiation detection equipment and operational techniques for using the equipment. The training involved both classroom study and instruction as well as hands on practical applications.
Several scenarios were set up for groups to work together with multiple detection capabilities. Students were evaluated and provided feedback by the instructors on how to improve their skills and techniques.
The training was very beneficial and helped to improve the hazmat teams overall knowledge, skills and abilities in the event they respond to an incident involving radiation.
