On Thursday, February 2, units from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to a significant fire at the Covanta Waste-to-Energy Facility in the Lorton section of Fairfax County. After nearly two weeks, the fire at the Lorton facility has been extinguished. Firefighters have been on scene 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since the fire started to bring the fire under control and to combat deep seated hot spots.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication the men and women of this department displayed in combating this challenging fire,” stated Fire Chief Richard Bowers. “I also greatly appreciate the patience of the community during this fire incident.”
