House Fire In Vienna Displaces Three

At approximately 5:23 a.m. on Sunday, February 5, units were dispatched for a reported house fire in the 1800 block of Batten Hollow Road in the Vienna section of Fairfax County.

Units from Fire Station 42, Wolftrap, arrived first on scene to find fire showing from the chimney are of the roof of a two-story single family home. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented the fire from spreading into the attic area of the home.

There were five occupants in the home at the time of the fire. A neighbor observed flames coming from the roof area of the home and called 911. The home was equipped with working smoke alarms that activated after the occupants were alerted to the fire. All occupants safely evacuated the house prior to fire department arrival.

There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries. Three people were displaced as a result of the fire. Red Cross assistance was offered but declined.

Fire Investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature and started within the metal chimney for the wood burning fireplace and spread to the surrounding wood construction pipe chase. Damages are estimated to be $93,750.
