On Sunday, November 27, at approximately 1:04 p.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 6500 block of Jay Miller Drive in the Lake Barcroft area of Fairfax County.
Units from Fire Station 8, Annandale, arrived on scene and reported fire showing from a two-story single family home. The fire was found to be located in an enclosed carport area attached to the house. Firefighters worked to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading into the home. Crews were successful in extinguishing the fire and keeping it contained to the enclosed carport area. There was no fire damage to the living area of the house.
The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. A neighbor called 911 after observing black smoke coming from the home.
Fire Investigators determined the fire was accidental in nature. The fire started in the carport area as a result of an electrical event that ignited nearby combustibles. The home’s smoke alarms did not activate due to the fire being contained to the carport area.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported and Red Cross services were not required. Damage to the property is estimated at $50,000.00.
