A Busy Day In The Sixth Battalion

It was a busy day in the Sixth Battalion on Wednesday, September 7. It began bright and early when units from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and the City of Alexandria Fire Department were dispatched for a report of a fire in the 7000  block of Mint Place in the Groveton area of Fairfax County. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly extinguished a small bedroom fire in a three-story garden style apartment. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. As of this time, the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Later in the day, units were dispatched for a reported vehicle crash on Richmond Highway in the Woodlawn area. Firefighters and paramedics arrived on scene to find a two car collision with one person trapped in a vehicle. Firefighters utilized a variety of extrication tools to remove the patient. One person was transported to an area hospital with one minor injury.

These types of calls can be dangerous and difficult, but they are all part of a day’s work for the firefighters in the Sixth Battalion.
