House Fire Causes $90K In Damages

On Wednesday, August 24 at approximately 10:23 a.m., units from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and the City of Fairfax Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 9400 block of Wrought Iron Court in the Lee Meadows area of Fairfax County.

Units arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing from the roof of a two-story single family home. Three occupants discovered the fire before the smoke alarms sounded. All three safely evacuated the home and were outside upon fire department arrival.

Firefighters quickly went to work to extinguish the fire. The bulk of the fire was contained to the attic area of the home. One occupant sustained minor burns to an arm and leg and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. No firefighter injuries were reported.

An investigation was initiated and revealed the fire originated on the exterior of the home on a wood deck and was incendiary in nature.

Damages to the home are estimated to be $90,000.00. Red Cross is assisting five adults and two children as a result of the fire.
