On June 7, at approximately 8:55 p.m., units responded to the 4700 block of Commons Drive for reports of a fire in an apartment building.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke showing from the top floor of a four-story apartment building. Units located the fire in the utility room and quickly brought it under control. One firefighter sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation. There were no civilian injuries.
The building had working smoke alarms which alerted occupants to the fire. Two adults and one juvenile have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross. Total property loss is valued at $18,750.
The cause of the fire is accidental. It was determined to be the result of a malfunctioning electric clothes dryer.
