On Sunday, May 15, 2016, at approximately 1:57 p.m., units responded for reports of an apartment fire in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The residential high-rise apartment building is located at 5597 Seminary Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke coming from a mid-level apartment. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.
The home had working smoke alarms. The fire was discovered by a tenant of the building prior to the smoke alarms activating. One adult was displaced. Damage is estimated at approximately $10,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire was determined to be improperly discarded smoking materials.
