Units responded to a garden apartment fire Thursday, February 18, 2016 at approximately 9:45 a.m., in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The apartment is located at 3041 Patrick Henry Drive.
Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from a three-story garden apartment building upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack. Fire crews were hampered by energized wires in the structure. Firefighters contained the fire until the power company was able to secure power to the building.
The occupants were home and called 911 prior to the activation of the smoke alarms.
Red Cross assistance was utilized for 39 individuals displaced from a total of 18 separate units. The total property and content values include six units within the involved building. The total number displaced include the occupants of three separate addresses all affected by the loss of power.
There were no injuries reported.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An undetermined electrical malfunction caused the fire that impinged upon the power supply for three buildings.
