Bathroom Heater Causes Falls Church House Fire

Units responded to a house fire Thursday, January 21, 2016 at approximately 8:15 p.m., in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 6205 Cheryl Drive.

Units encountered smoke showing from the attic of the home. Crews quickly extinguished the fire in the attic and confirmed everyone was out of the home. The dwelling was occupied by two adults and two children at the time of the fire. The owner discovered the fire and all four occupants self-evacuated. There were three working smokeĀ alarms within the dwelling, however they did not activate because the fire was located in the attic space. Red Cross support was offered but declined. One firefighter was transported from the scene for evaluation.

Damage is estimated at $80,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire was a ceiling heater located in the master bathroom.
