Welding Causes Accidental Vienna House Fire

Units responded to a house fire Friday, December 4, 2015, at approximately 7:30 p.m., in the Vienna area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 2650 Oakton Glen Drive.

Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the attic and roof of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire in the attic. Three occupants were home when the fire broke out and escaped unharmed. The occupants discovered smoke from a second floor light fixture and called 911. Four occupants have been displaced; however, the occupants have declined Red Cross support. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $25,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Hot works operations, or welding in the attic, ignited insulation and caused the fire.
