Units responded to a house fire Saturday, November 21, 2015, at approximately 4:25 a.m., in the Fairfax Station area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 7113 Sylvan Glen Lane.
Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the one-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and search and discovered an elderly women and dog. The fire was contained to the family room and was quickly extinguished by crews. The woman was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where she later died from her injuries. Firefighters also rescued a dog in the fire. A hallway smoke alarm did not activate during the fire.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An electric heating pad in the family room caused the fire.
