Units responded to a house fire Friday, October 30, 2015, at approximately 8:40 p.m., in the McLean area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 1858 Massachusetts Avenue.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the three-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack; however, firefighters were not able to save any of the home due to the volume of fire. A sounding smoke alarm allowed an adult female to escape the home from a second floor bedroom. Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupant. She was transported to Arlington Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The home was a complete loss.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The refrigerator in the kitchen malfunctioned and caused the fire.
