Units responded to a house fire Sunday, September 20, 2015, at approximately 4:30 p.m., in the McLean area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 1638 Dempsey Street.
Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the attic and roof of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and extinguished the fire in approximately 15 minutes. The lone occupant home when the fire broke out was a dog who was rescued by firefighters. Two adults and one child have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $70,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An unidentified electrical event in the attic caused the fire.
