Lightning Strike Causes Garden Apartment Fire

Units responded to a garden apartment fire Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at approximately 5:00 p.m., in the Fair Oaks area of Fairfax County. The garden apartment is located at 12314 Oak Creek Lane.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the three-story apartment upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control. Smoke alarms were present but did not activate due to fire being on the exterior of the structure. One occupant has been displaced; however, declined Red Cross support. One firefighter was treated and transported with minor injuries.

Damage is estimated at $80,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A lightning strike to the exterior of the building caused the fire.
