Bathroom Ceiling Fan Causes Falls Church Hotel Fire

Units responded to a commercial building fire Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at approximately 7 a.m., in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The fire was located at the Budget Inn Hotel at 7155 Lee Highway.

Firefighters encountered smoke coming from a room on the first floor of the two-story hotel upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire in the bathroom. The lone occupant initially was alerted when smelling smoke; however, a smoke alarm activated moments later. The occupants was relocated to another room. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $2,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A ceiling exhaust fan malfunctioned and caused the fire.
