Units responded to a tractor trailer fire Sunday, July 12, 2015, at approximately 12:40 p.m., at the Fairfax County I-66 Waste Transfer Station, located at 4750 West Ox Road.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from a large wheeled trailer upon arrival. Firefighters conducted a fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. The aluminum transfer trailer was used to transport solid waste to the Covanta Waste Facility in Lorton. Workers at the facility were able to detach the tractor from the trailer prior to the arrival of firefighters. One worker was transported to Fair Oaks Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The trailer was a complete loss.
According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire is undetermined.
