Lightning Causes Alexandria House Fire

Units responded to a house fire Thursday, June 18, 2015, at approximately 5:50 p.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 2509 Beacon Hill Road.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the attic in the rear of the ranch-style home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the attic area. No one was home when the fire broke out.  There were no injuries and no one was displaced.

Damage is estimated at $70,000.

According fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A lightning strike to the roof caused the fire.
