Accidental Oakton House Fire, Occupants Escape Unharmed


Units responded to a house fire Thursday, April 30, 2015, at approximately 4:45 p.m., in the Oakton area of Fairfax County.  The single-family home is located at 3274 Pony Ridge Way.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the attached two-car garage of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes.  The fire started in the garage and extended into the home. Smoke alarms sounded allowing both occupants to escape unharmed.  Both occupants have been displaced.  Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupants.  There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $125,000.  Damage does not include the two destroyed vehicles inside the garage.

According fire investigators, the fire was accidental.  The fire started in the engine compartment of one of the vehicles parked in the garage.
