Electrical Box Causes Alexandria Townhouse Fire

Units responded to a townhouse fire Thursday, April 2, 2015, at approximately 12:35 p.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family townhouse is located at 6302 Meetinghouse Way.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the rear deck area of the two-story, middle unit townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control. An occupant escaped unharmed when a neighbor alerted the occupant to the fire. There were no working smoke alarms in the home. Four occupants have been displaced. Red Cross is supporting the occupants. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $36,750.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An electrical problem within the electrical box going to the heat pump caused the fire.
