Units responded to a house fire, Saturday, March 14, 2015, at approximately 3:20 p.m., in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 1919 Cherri Drive.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes. Smoke alarms activated and provided early warning for the lone occupant. The occupant was transported to the Washington Hospital Center Burn Center with non-life threatening injuries. The occupant has been displaced; however, Red Cross support was offered but declined. Two cats perished in the fire.
Damage is estimated at $300,000.
The fire is under investigation.
